- Does my pet need flea preventaion all year round?
- In Georgia as in many other warm climates fleas are active all year round. To eliminate fleas from our pets and our environments we have to break their life cycle. This means killing all current and hatching fleas as well as the occasional flea brought in from other environments. When even a few fleas are allowed to grow to maturity, they can quickly turn into a serious problem. Since our warm temperatures allow fleas to grow every month of the year, we must protect against them during the whole year. For more information on the flea life cycle please see the following articles: Flea Control in Felines and Flea Control in Canines.
- When should my puppy begin heartworm preventatives?
- Puppies should begin receiving their heartworm preventative at 9 weeks of age. This will provide maximum lifetime protection from this deadly disease.
- Does my dog need heartworm preventative all year?
- Yes! Heartworm disease is a deadly disease that is spread by mosquitos. Mosquitos are able to live through long periods of below freezing temperatures. As soon as temperatures warm up even a little bit, and even in the middle of winter they will get right back to feeding and spreading this disease. Read this article for more information on Canine Heartworm Disease. We also have information on Feline Heartworm Disease. We also recommend you visit the American Heartworm Society on the internet. They have additional information about heartworm disease.
- Do you offer boarding services? Can my pets stay with you when I'm out of town or on vacation?
- We do offer boarding services for our clients. Dogs are offered two ten minute walks outside each day. Those cats that are interested receive several minutes of active play and enrichment each day. All of our pet guests are monitored throughout the day and receive the best care possible. Our medical staff keep an eye on them in case the stress of being away from home causes any problems. When this arises we are able to care for them quickly. All boarding dogs must be current on all vaccinations as well as have a current kennel cough vaccination and intestinal parasite screening. We recommend that all of these vaccinations be brought up to date at least two weeks before boarding for maximum protection. All cats must be current on all of their vaccinations as well.
- Do you sell prescription and non prescription food?
- Nutrition is one of the most important factors in making your pets life long, healthy, and happy. We believe strongly in the importance of feeding pets a high quality diet throughout the course of their lives. At times specially formulated diets are even prescribed by doctors to treat serious conditions like kidney disease and urinary tract disease. Because nutrition is so important we work closely with Hill's Pet Nutrition to keep a large selection of these foods at both of our locations at all times. Through our special arrangement with Hill's we are able to offer prices on many of these diets that cannot be beat anywhere, including the big box stores. Further, due to the nutrient richness of these diets, they can frequently be fed for less cost per day than lower quality grocery store diets. Please ask our staff which diet is right for your pet.
- At what age should my pet be spayed or neutered?
